Regional Compacts
NC-SARA works in close partnership with four regional education compacts to enact the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA). The four regional compacts – the Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC), the New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE), the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) and the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) – have helped states, and the public and private institutions within the states, work cooperatively to expand distance education access and excellence within their regions. Learn more about the regional compacts and their work to enact SARA.
Here’s an overview of NC-SARA Roles in a larger view format.
Regional Steering Committees
Each of the four regional compacts that administer SARA has a regional steering committee that provides oversight of the state members within their region. Learn more about the regional compacts and their steering committees.
State Portal Entities
Each state also designates a State Portal Entity (SPE) that oversees SARA participating institutions in each member state. Learn more and find State Portal Entity contact information.
